Running and Photography May Be the New Trend in Integrative Wellness
For nature lovers, running can be much more enjoyable (and challenging) when running on a mountain trail. The scenic views provided can take you to another level where you achieve nirvana and feel like you can do anything.
If you are a photographer, there is an added bonus as your workout time will also give you an opportunity to capture great shots. And more than that, it can provide a therapeutic balance that is good for the body, mind, and soul.
As an Integrative Wellness Coach and photography enthusiast, I have learned to incorporate my hobby into my morning mountain runs, a combination that is beneficial inside and out.
The Therapeutic Benefits of Photography
Just like any art form, photography can have several therapeutic benefits. It allows us to focus on what’s around us helping us to develop more mindful thinking techniques that can minimize stress.
Although photography involves capturing images of the world around us, photographers can get creative in the angles they use and what they choose to incorporate in their pictures. Therefore, it is a form of self-expression that can help a person gain a better understanding of themselves.
Photography also allows us to see everyday things in a different way. For instance, if you photograph something as simple as a rose or a tree, you can use angles and shadows to make it a work of art and give it a whole new meaning.
The Benefits of Running
Running can benefit physical health in many ways. It can help with weight management, it raises levels of good cholesterol, it can increase lung function and it can boost your immune system.
But did you know running can also have emotional benefits as well? Studies have shown that people that run have reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Running can also benefit the brain by improving memory and focus and reducing the risk of cognitive degeneration that comes with age.
Another advantage of running, it can regulate circadian rhythms to heighten alertness during the day and produce a deeper, higher quality sleep at night.
Running, Photography and Integrative Wellness
After finding out about all the benefits running and photography have to offer, it is easy to see why a combination of the two packs a punch that is rejuvenating for the body and soul. When used in conjunction, they can be essential tools in integrative wellness.
What is integrative life coaching and how is it different from traditional life coaching? The difference is that the coaching fundamentals are combined with a diverse range of healing modalities in the areas of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness to make positive changes in all areas of life, not just one. I look for creative ways daily to increase production, focus, and awareness to make the changes I wish to implement in my life.
Adding photography and running to my routine is a lifestyle change that has improved my mood and physical fitness for a higher quality of life.
